Minister

Rev Paul Ellis

I grew up in Devon in the ‘60s and ‘70s and lived there for a further twenty years while working in the NHS as a community Speech & Language Therapist.  I was heavily involved in my local United Reformed Church in Brixham and it was from there that I trained locally for the URC ministry.  I was ordained in 2008 to my first pastorate of Witham and Terling in mid-Essex.  After eight fulfilling years there, I was called to move on and am excited now to be minister at Hutton & Shenfield Union Church.
This welcoming Church of over a hundred people shows great potential for the future and I look forward to working with them in developing the worship to be more relevant to all generations, and to extending the outreach within Hutton.
Jill and I have three adult offspring, spread around the country.  We enjoy walking on my days off.

I was born in Leytonstone, London but moved to Hutton with my parents when I was 4 and my sister came along 7 years later.  I come from a Christian background, and attended Brookfield Primary School and St. Martins Secondary School for Girls.  When I left school I became an apprentice window dresser, but after a few years I changed career and went to work in the offices of a local Brentwood car dealer.
I married Terry in 1974 at All Saints Church, Hutton and our 2 boys (Robert & Peter) were born in 1978 and 1982.  We came to work at Union Church in 1979 (36 years ago) as caretakers and over the years my job changed as I was asked if I would or could take on more responsibilities and am now also the office manager.  I have made many friends here at Union Church and feel that church people have become an extension of our family.
My pastimes are flower arranging (especially for the church), water colour painting and have taken an interest in pen and ink work.  Like most people I like dining out and also visiting, whenever possible, Southwold in Suffolk where I have spent many holidays with my parents and likewise with our family.
